100% of the proceeds are going to individuals experiencing homelessness!
OUR VISION
As a church, we have partnered with 4th Second to create the ‘Love Thy Neighbor’ project. We have a heart for individuals experiencing homelessness in our communities and want to love them the way Jesus loves us. ‘Love Thy Neighbor’ provides an opportunity for you, members of our church, to build relationships with those who are experiencing homelessness or are in transitional housing, and to help support them physically and spiritually. We are seeking individuals, families, and small groups who would like to participate in this project and be a “neighbor” to someone in need.
Jesus calls us to a higher standard of loving others and loving Him.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. Truly, I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Matthew 25: 35-36
WHAT IS A "NEIGHBOR"?
We are inviting caring individuals, families, and small groups to “become a neighbor” to someone unhoused or in transitional housing. No special training is needed – just a heart to love, listen, and build Christ-centered relationships.
WHAT DOES A "NEIGHBOR" DO?
As a part of this program, you will be matched with an unhoused individual or family in order to love on them and build relationship. Here are some ideas for how to do that:
- Share a meal with them at their home/encampment
- Celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, etc. with them
- Play cards or board games or work on a puzzle together
- Teach or learn a new skill together (knitting, sewing, painting)
- Bake/cook together
- Invited them to church or other outings (and help arrange transportation)
- Collect prayer requests and offer to pray for/with them
The initial commitment on both sides is for 6 months, meeting at least once a month. Prior to meeting, there will be separate orientations for both church members and participants, where the goals of the program will be explained and ground rules established.
MEET A NEED!
Another way you can be involved in this project is by signing up to be on an email list for monthly needs requests for the transitional houses. You can respond if you are able to meet that need. This will mostly include toilet paper, laundry detergent, and other household items. Occasionally, there may be requests for larger donations.
